Well hockey season is officially underway. Unfortunately if you have Direct TV like I do, you can’t watch the Sharks game tonight because they are in some kind of dispute with VS channel. So here i sit updating here while listening to the game on the radio via the internet. What did we all do before the all mighty internet?

Took a camping trip this last weekend to the Yosemite Valley. The boys had a great time.  Had some good conversations with my brother-in-law Tom. He says that U2 is the greatest rock band ever. Now I’m not a U2 fan at all, but I hear they are a pretty good band. But the best ever?? Better then the Rolling Stones? Beatles? Elvis? Michael Jackson? Because I’m not  U2 fan I guess it’s easy for me to say that there not. SO..I think that everyone that reads this needs to leave in the comment section who they think the ALL TIME best band  is.

I can’t  leave without a quick Eagles update. We are 2-1 and are in pretty good shape considering that we have been without our starting quarterback the last two weeks. Were on a bye week this week (yes week 4 and a bye, what the hell is the NFL thinking?) so should be a pretty normal week around the Oliveira household (depending on how the fist few Sharks games go)

Jordan and Hunter are both enjoying themselves right now. Jordan is on another computer right now looking at how to make new cool things with Origami. He has been making things for the past couple months and gets better and better. Normally I’d have to buy a book of Origami for him to learn how to do it , but thankfully there is the internet and “youtube”.

Now Hunter is a little more on the analog side of playing. He is running around the living-room with one of my beanie hats pulled all the way down over his eyes thinking he’s Spiderman, only problem is he can’t see and just ran into the wall. Every time I try to explain to him that he can’t see with that pulled over his head and he might get hurt, I just get shot with a web.

Well The Sharks are down 2-1 after the first period and the second period is about to start so I better bring this post to an end. OH WAIT. This week on Facebook I was reunited with 3 of my old classmates from Sunol Glen Elementary school. So I’d like to say Hello to Heather, Heidi and Kara, good to talk to you guys again !!!! You to Kelch.

So for the majority of you who happen to not be hockey fans, October 1st starts the hockey season, it also happens to start the best 3 months in sports for me. Hockey, Nascar and Football all going at the same time. Granted, to pull off watching every game and every race you will have to get yourself a DVR and record one of them every so often, then comes the tricky part. You must then avoid all the sports updates and all the Twitter messages so you don’t find out what the score or results are before you have a chance to watch your recording. You must also avoid the text messages from your friends asking you if you saw that incredible goal that just happened, unfortunately you didn’t see it because you were recording to watch later !!  So I find the best way to resolve all these problems is this. First turn the TV up so loud that your wife gets mad and tells you to turn it down, look at her with that look like you can’t hear what she’s saying, she will shake her head at you and get up and leave. Now the tricky part, the kids.  For the first 5 minutes they will think the TV being that loud is kind of cool.  You might have to wait them out for ten minutes or so, but eventually they will get sick of the noise and also leave. My advice would be to record the Nascar race, they are about 4 hours and have a lot of commercials that you will want to fast forward thru. The football games must be watched live. Personally, I watch the Eagles games live and ALONE. This is just a set rule at our house, Sunday mornings the living room and TV are mine and mine alone.  Now this is just a small look at what goes on at our house the next three months. If  you don’t happen to  follow all three of these sports I highly recommend you starting. Get yourself a DVR, a nice wad of Redman chewing tobacco and good set of “house rules” and sit back and enjoy. Good luck and may God bless the Eagles, the Sharks and the #5 car of Mark Martin.

Yes, I know it’s only pre-season, but it’s sure better then anything that’s on TV. I may have said this before but I don’t want to go back and look at my earlier posts to check. Why cant networks have shows that run all year long?

Anyway, pre-season football is a lot like my sister-in-law baking cupcakes, it starts out as something that your really looking forward to, and ends up something that may have been better left undone. I’ll explain a little. My sister-in-law Victoria would come and say “Hey guys, I’m gonna bake cupcakes”. Of course I’m all for anything with frosting.

So she starts taking out all the pots and pans and eggs and flower and whatever else cooks take out when there feeding about 80 people. So as I sit watching some kind of sporting event on TV, she’s in there, pots banging, eggs cracking, blenders blending, sounds like an episode of “Hells kitchen”. She takes a break to go to the bathroom (sorry Victoria, but yes we all know even you must use the bathroom) she comes out of the kitchen covered in flower, eggs dripping from her fingertips and I’m thinking “WOW, these are gonna be some good cupcakes. You know the kind that you can eat like 5 in a row then 15 min later have another 3 of them”.

So now shes back in the kitchen (It’s been about 2 hours of cooking at this point) so I decide to get up and take a peak. I look in the kitchen and it looks like somebody put a stick of dynamite in a 9 tier wedding cake. There was stuff everywhere. Batter on the ceiling, egg juice on the floor, frosting on her eyebrows. I just shook my head and went and sat back down not wanting to say too much and miss out on a dozen or so of these cupcakes that i have now been waiting 2 1/2 hours for.

Then came the magic words I had been waiting all day to hear “Bill your cupcake it ready” I thought to myself “My cupcake?” you mean my CUPCAKES!!. . But I again didn’t want to make her mad and loose my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cupcakes. So out came this beautiful cupcake. I mean this thing was like 14 year old boy looking at a Farrah Fawcett poster in 1983, It was breathtaking. golden white cake with a bright creamy white frosting. As I reached out and took it off the plate i was thinking ” just relax and take little bites and enjoy all her hard work”. But then I said “screw it ill just have more when I’m done with this one” needless to say 2 bites later the masterpiece that Victoria made was gone. She stood there in complete shock and asked me “why the hell did you just shove it in your mouth like that?” I said “because it’s a cupcake, now can I have another one please?” She looked at me for what seemed like 10 minutes when a small single tear started to slide down her flowery (baking flower) cheek. I said “well can I have another?” She paused one more second then yelled, “THAT WAS THE ONLY ONE I MADE !!!”  I looked at her in disbelief, then I paused and turned my head towards the kitchen to look at what can only be described as a bakery bombing and said “are you serious”? She just ran in her bedroom with egg and flower and frosting falling on the floor behind her.  Not sure exactly what all this had to do with football, but 98% of this is a true story. Victoria , I don’t think I ever got to say thank you for that cupcake. It was a little too sweet, but thank you.

First before I start the 10 things not to do, I first need to thank my Dad for digging up the picture of me on the top of the site, and thank my wife for posting it for him !!!

OK, so on to the countdown……

#10 – Don’t watch the new late show with Conan O’Brien.

#9 -   Don’t think you will ever call a business anymore and talk to a live person without going thru some kind of automated system, and don’t worry, you will still have to give the same information to the person that eventually answers your call.

#8 -  Don’t use the word “Numbnutts” around your 4 year old (trust me on this one) anything you or your wife, or other son do that seems wrong to the 4 year old, will be followed by “Good job numbnutts”.

#7 – Don’t play “Farm town” on Facebook. Very addicting yet with all the time you spend playing you could have actually planted a garden and built a farm in your back yard.

#6  – Don’t put your kids TV on top of a 4 drawer dresser. A 4 year old can figure out how to pull out each drawer a little more then the other to make a small ladder to climb up and rewind the dvd player.

#5  – Don’t eat yellow snow. (an oldie, but still applies after all these years)

#4  – Don’t ever send racy e-mails or dirty jokes to your husband or wife without double checking that you haven’t clicked the “send to all addresses” button.

#3  – Don’t think you really don’t look “that big” when you see a picture of yourself. It’s a PICTURE, it looks exactly like you, because it IS you.

#2 -  Don’t think you will ever just walk into a cell phone store and buy or upgrade a phone without spending at least a hour. Make sure the phone you want is worth the wait.

And the #1 thing not to do unless you have to………………………

Never answer the question “Do i look fat in this” when asked by a woman. Just pretend you didn’t hear and walk out, get your keys, hop in your truck and hang out somewhere until enough time passes that there is no way she’s still trying to figure out what to wear.

Third preseason game for the Eagles at halftime now. Eagles “D” doesn’t look good. Giving up on Brian Dawkins could come back and bite us in the ass. Vick looked pretty good on the few plays he was in. Now watching the little league world series. Love watching these 12 year old play the game. Wife is on her craft site as usual. I think shes actually passing me up with all her “craft toys” over my hunting and fishing “toys.” I guess that does make it a little easier for me to buy stuff without getting the “Look”.  BBQed some big porterhouses today and didn’t even leave anything for the dog. We have been trying for months to get the kids to play outside but they would just rather sit inside and play on the computer or x-box.Oh by the way, if i happen to win the 310 million dollars from the lotto tonight you might not see me post for a while. Ill be riding that Harley for a few days and wont have much time.  )

Should be a good night tonight. Sat. night short track racing at Bristol for the Nascar boys tonight. Just happens to be my favorite race of the year. Hopefully after the race I can get the wife to watch “my bloody valentine” with me.  Didn’t will the 200 million dollar mega million lottery last night, but I dont think anyone else won it, so that means it should be pretty big next week, will give it one more try. If I win the 200 million I have decided to buy and start my own Nascar race team and of course drive for my team.

Opps now it’s Sunday and I forgot to post this yesterday. Wife is cooking breakfast now and Jordan is out painting his skateboard. The kid is addicted to these little fingerboad skateboard things. Guess that’s better then being addicted to something else. Ended up watching Max Keblers big move last night with the biys instead of My bloody Valentine.  Turned out to actually be a funny movie. My Twitter has been going crazy this AM. The Nascar drivers love to tweet the day after a race. Maybe there so used to racing on Sundays that when they don’t there bored?? I think they have to much money to be bored.

Sorry about the post today, not very exciting but wife was on my butt about posting something and was too tired to come up with any fun stuff. If you have anything you want to talk about or a topic you want me to write about, just leave it in the comment section and Ill come up with something.

Oh, anyone else like that song “Somebody call 911″ It’s a pretty catchy tune. If you haven’t heard give it a listen, not my kinda music but catchy.

While other things need to be changed.  I will post a few things that I think are better left alone, and then a few things i think really need to be changed/updated. Then you guys can let me know what you think should be left alone or changed.

First off I hope they never try to change Coke again, the new coke just sucked.

I really think they should stop adding and changing the shapes of the masrhmellows in Lucky Charms. Hearts, clovers and diamonds are enough, any more then that and your just confusing the kid.

Dodge-ball is next up for not changing. Leave it alone. Banning dodge-ball is like banning “tag” (which IS being banned in some schools) or hide-and- go seek.  I’ve never heard or read about a Dodge-ball death, I think it’s pretty safe. While we’re on the subject of games that kids play lets talk about not keeping score at athletic competitions like baseball and soccer and other sports. WTF? I really believe the only people that don’t keep score are the parents of the team that’s LOOSING !! Do we want to teach our kids that loosing is equal to wining? Well I guess at the next Olympics we can just give everyone a gold medal just for being there and trying. Hey, let’s give all the football teams Super Bowl rings, they look like they all tried really hard.

OK let’s think of a couple things that NEED to be changed…

My number one would be toilet paper. I mean come on, there has to be a better way. In all these years that’s the best we can do? A nano thick piece of paper stands between my hand and my ………  ???

Re-runs on TV – Do we really need them? There has to be enough stuff these days to put on without seeing the Ross and Rachael “we were on a break” episode for the nine hundredth time. We have DVD’s now, if we want to see it, we can buy it.

Here’s something that needs to be changed. Turkey for thanksgiving !!! Turkey sucks for dinner. Yea the Pilgrims ate it, but I’m pretty sure the people before them ate dinosaur shit, and I don’t see that on anyone’s plate.

The last one for today will be Gas prices. Do they really need to change the price of gas EVERY DAY?  Seriously. If Chocolate prices go up for a day does a friggin Hershey bar go up in price for that day? How bout bread? If the price of yeast fluctuates does the store run and change the price of all the bread for that day? Figure out a fair friggin price, post it, and keep it that way for a few weeks.
